What exactly is the Z-LASIK technique?
Here the flap is formed by using a special laser system (no blade or scalpel comes in contact with the eyes (all-laser LASIK, bladeless LASIK). The smooth method of restoring vision with the LDV of Ziemer femtosecond laser. If you are looking for an accurate, secure and comfortable refractive surgery with laser, the Z-LASIK® laser is your best choice. With the Z-LASIK laser, your vision is corrected using laser from the beginning to the end of surgery. No blade or scalpel will touch your eyes. The risk of complications is reduced compared to the prior techniques and the quality of postoperative vision is better than any other method. Correct your vision in the most gentle manner and benefit from the most innovative technology available today in refractive surgery with laser.

The experience gained so far with over 700.000 Z-LASIK treatments, has shown that the majority of patients:
- during surgery, they did not feel uncomfortable or any pain
- gained excellent vision without glasses
- they are happier than they expected with the result
- see better than the preoperative vision with glasses
- would chose this method again and highly recommend it to others
Previously: Creating a flap by mechanical microkeratome blade (traditional LASIK). A traditional method of correcting the eyesight with laser, the LASIK which required a mechanically driven blade to create an incision in the higher layers of the cornea, before starting the correction. Although millions of operations have been done applying this technique, sometimes this blade is likely to generate an uneven surface in the cornea that can affect the quality of vision. Also, many patients have decided not to undergo this procedure because they felt uncomfortable with the idea that a scalpel would touch their eyes.

Now: Creation of a stem through a femtosecond laser system. For several years it is possible to create the stem using a so-called femtosecond laser. This means that it no longer engages a scalpel in the process. Patients feel more comfortable and the results are clearly better.
The Z-LASIK is the most advanced method of refractive surgery without blade. This method uses a high-frequency laser, whose beam operates with 100 times less power than the first femtosecond lasers. Never before has refractive surgery been safer, accurate and comfortable for the patient as surgery with Z-LASIK does.

Z-LASIK Technique Advantages:

- Z-LASIK has a very low influence on the eyes: The process takes only a few minutes on each eye. The contact time of the laser to the eye is minimized
- the Z-LASIK is comfortable and without pain: The patient does not feel trapped beneath massive provisions
- the Z-LASIK helps in difficult cases: Thanks to its extremely high operating frequency of the laser, the corneal layers are separated accurately creating an extremely thin flap
- the Z-LASIK is further effective in patients who were not candidates for laser refractive surgery: This includes patients with extreme myopia or a thin cornea
- no inflammation: The energy of the laser used in the Z-LASIK are almost 100 times less than other laser. Thus, the Z-LASIK is softer for the corneal tissue and prevents temporary inflammation of the eyes response
- fast results: The visual recovery time is significantly shorter than other techniques. Patients usually can easily see in just a few hours.
- less side effects: The Z-LASIK allows the surgeon to enlarge the treatment zone, thereby reducing the risk of unwanted side effects, such as dry eyes, decreased night vision or haloes (light rings surrounding point light sources)

The 4 steps of the Z-LASIK technique:
Step 1: Pre-operative tests
Your doctor performs a series of tests to ensure that your eyes are suitable for vision correction with laser. Following are detailed electronic tests which data is analyzed to generate an accurate three-dimensional image of the surface of the eye. From this picture the computer configures the most appropriate laser treatment to correct your refractive error.
Step 2: Creating a flap
A few minutes before treatment with laser, anesthetic drops are dripped. An eyelid dilator is positioned to keep the eyes open, thus preventing the blinking during treatment. Then the higher layer of the cornea is separated by the laser and it wraps.

Step 3: corneal sculpting
The excimer laser sculpts the corneal tissue within seconds to centimeter accuracy of a millimeter. After the end of treatment repositioned flap, previously folded and which heals rapidly. The whole process takes only a few minutes. Immediately after treatment you can open and close your eyes properly.
Step 4: Easy post-operative care
In some cases, if necessary, the eyes are protected for one day with contact lenses. Special eye drops accelerate healing. During the first hour after surgery you should not rub your eyes. Also, for some days, you should avoid activities with sports (football, basketball, swimming). The corrected eyes show no visible evidence of surgery. Even an ophthalmologist during an exam, it is possible might not notice it.
